Privacy Policy

Shake N Date Pty Ltd ("Shake N Date", "we", "us") operates the Shake N Date mobile app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
When you create an account and use the app, we collect:
- Account details: your email address and first name.
- Profile details: gender and colour theme, if you choose to set them.
- Date of birth: collected only to verify you're 18 or older before unlocking the Intimacy jar. We only ever store your birth year and month, never the exact day — the day is used for the one-time age check and then discarded.
- Approximate location: a coarse area (roughly suburb-level), derived from your device's location and rounded before it ever leaves your phone. We never store or transmit your precise GPS coordinates.
- Activity within the app: which venues or activities you're shown and pick, when you schedule a date, star ratings and optional written feedback after a date, and whether you're linked to a partner.
- Marketing preference: whether you've opted in or out of receiving emails from us.
- Sign-in method: whether you signed up with email, Google, Facebook, or Apple. When you use one of those providers to sign in, they share only your name and email with us, exactly as they would with any app using their sign-in button.
We do not collect your contacts, photos, or messages, and we never ask for or store your precise GPS location.
How we use your information
- To run the core features of the app: suggesting nearby venues and activities, and remembering your plans.
- To verify you're old enough to access age-restricted content (the Intimacy jar).
- To personalise your experience (theme, suggestions).
- To send you marketing emails, only if you've opted in — you can turn this off any time in the app.
- To understand how the app is used, so we can improve it, and to diagnose crashes and bugs.
Who we share information with
We don't sell your information. We share it only where necessary to run the app:
- Our infrastructure provider (Amazon Web Services): your account and app data is stored on our own AWS backend, hosted in Australia (Sydney).
- Analytics and crash reporting (PostHog, Sentry): used to understand app usage and fix bugs. These providers may receive an account identifier alongside usage events and error reports.
- Venue search providers (Foursquare, Google Places): when you shake for a venue, your coarse location and jar choice are sent to these providers to find nearby options — never your exact location or any information that identifies you personally.
- Sign-in providers (Google, Facebook, Apple): only involved if you choose to sign in with one of them, per their own terms.
We don't share your information with third parties for their own advertising or marketing purposes.
How long we keep your information
If you delete your account, it's deactivated immediately and permanently deleted after 30 days. Signing back in within that window restores your account and cancels the deletion. After 30 days, your account and associated data are permanently removed from our systems.
Your choices
- You can view and update your profile details at any time from the app's account screen.
- You can turn marketing emails on or off at any time.
- You can delete your account at any time from the app's account screen.
- You can ask us what information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by contacting us below.
Age requirements
Shake N Date is not directed at children. The Intimacy jar specifically is restricted to users 18 and over, verified via the date-of-birth check described above.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information appropriately.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll let you know in the app or by email. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
